GMD is happy to announce that we have received Arts Council England funding for an r&d project focusing on grief, vulnerability and care entitled Ascension.

We are seeking two Black, male contemporary dancers to join the R&D development of this duet.

Where:

Description of opportunity:
Ascension explores grief, care, loss and intimacy through contemporary movement, somatic practice and contact work. Rooted in tenderness and honesty, the piece reflects on how the body carries memory, emotion and release.

This work intentionally centres Black men within contemporary dance —creating space for softness, vulnerability and emotional depth. The process will prioritise trust, listening and embodied exchange.

We’re looking for dancers who:

•    Demonstrate strong technical proficiency in contemporary technique
•    Are confident in floor work, with fluid transitions in and out of the ground
•    Have solid experience in contact improvisation and weight-sharing
•    Are comfortable with improvisation, task-based exploration, and responsive partnering
•    Are open to vulnerability, intimacy, and emotionally honest performance
•    Enjoy collaborative devising and contributing creatively to process

R&D Dates & Locations:  Artists must be available for the full R&D period
•    20th – 24th April 2026 Leicester

•    Professional fee
